Management of a scrap yard

Case study

Since 2012, Jost Group has been managing a scrap yard and collecting scrap metal, an additional activity to transport and logistics.

What does this mean exactly and what is the role of Jost Group?

The company collects 141 containers on all sites that produce scrap metal waste within a radius of 30km. This collection is adapted to the production rate of these different sites.

About 1.000 containers per month, reaching from 7 to 12 tons, are brought to the scrap metal yard of Ougrée. This represents approximately 9.000 tons per month which are unloaded 24/7.

Jost Group bought in two cranes for its site, to be able handle the waste. The containers get emptied and sorted according to type (galvanised, coated, unlined).

Once sorted, the scrap metal gets loaded and shipped by truck with tipper trailer to the end-use sites. These are specific tippers as they have to be very sturdy, so that the scrap metal cannot pierce them. There are about 15 vehicles dedicated to this type of transport every day.

Once again, this type of transport shows that Jost Group provides its customers with a high-quality, custom-made services. Thanks to our diversified fleet of vehicles and continuous investment into our equipment, we are very flexible and able to maintain our high performance level, with the vision of being a reference European partner in integrated logistics.
